Wedding Day Insights

I was recently in the fortunate position of attending one of my children’s wedding here in Scotland.

It was held in late Summer when the weather was supposed to be mild and sunny, however we did have some rainy spells, but were fortunate enough to have a glimpse of sunshine during the day, which lent itself to the happy couple having some beautiful wedding photos taken at the side of the church grounds and then transported away to the local parkland to have some photos taken with a water backdrop and more scenic wedding photos taken within the park.

The parents of the happy couple, the bridesmaid and best man plus all the wedding guests also had their photos taken in the garden area of the church and again later at the reception venue.

The reception took place not too far away from the wedding ceremony in a beautifully decorated room with a ballroom for dancing the night away.

There was a champagne reception on entering the venue with canapés before sitting down to a lovely dinner.

Wedding toasts took place to celebrate the happy couple’s memorable day and the usual and not so usual speeches from the wedding party.

The Groom, the Best Man and many of the immediate family wore the Scottish Traditional Kilt complete with hose, which is the socks; flashes which is the garters; brogues , these are the shoes; sporran; kilt pin and sgian dubh, which is the knife placed at the side of the socks. Wonderful and keeps the Scottish tradition alive.

Prior to the wedding day there were so many things to consider.

Months before the wedding day, many destinations were considered for the Honeymoon. For example, The Caribbean, The Maldives, Morocco, Thailand, Australia, Costa Rice, Bahamas, Mexico, South East Asia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Africa, Dubai.

Also considered for the honeymoon were the likes of Hawaii, Kenya, Bali, Bora Bora, and pretty much anywhere in Europe: Ibiza, Menorca, The Greek Islands, Italy and Croatia. Eventually the USA was the chosen celebratory destination.

Wedding Themes

Many themes for the wedding day were also considered such as:

Beach themed wedding, Festival based, Barn weddings, glamping etc

Bridesmaids and flower girls/page boys

One Bridesmaid was chosen, the Brides best friend. There was originally going to be one flower girl and one pageboy, however on the day in question, this did not transpire as the children were so young and became too shy.

There can be a relaxed, home made vibe to your wedding with wild flowers, which can also be dried. The bridesmaids can accessorise with bunches of gypsophila or similar wispy flowers.

Popular designers throughout this year have been Donna Salado and Justin Alexander. One of the best places I found for plus size wedding dresses and ball gowns was Dynasty London.

Bari-Jay bridesmaid dresses were popular with sequin bridesmaids setting a huge trend.

Donna Salado dresses, and a British Design which is always good and to the highest of quality. Justin Alexander Signature is a favourite too!

All the dresses range in size and length, which is a great asset for all.

Favourite designer names were:

Sottero & Midgley, Justin Alexander, Donna Salado, Sincerity, Sweetheart, The Dessy Group and Ebony Rose.

Sequins, lace, beading and pearls were all adored and in the end my Daughter-in-Law made the perfect choice for her and looked wonderful.
